Leading Strings Across the State...
Terrie Baune, concertmaster, also holds positions as concertmaster of the North State Symphony, co-concermaster of the Oakland East Bay Symphony, violinist in Earplay, the San Francisco-based new music chamber ensemble, and is Associate Director of the Humboldt Chamber Music Workshop. She has been a resident of Humboldt County for the past seventeen years, while she continues to travel to her various workplaces.
"I was initially inspired to take up the violin because I wanted to be part of the sound of a violin section," Baune says, "so really, orchestra playing was my first love and continues to be one of my favorite kinds of music-making... With all of the traveling I have done and still do," she notes, "it's wonderful to be able to work here with Carol and the Eureka Symphony and participate in the music-making of my own community."
Symphony Manager & Manuscript Detective...
Issa Stemler joined the Eureka Symphony as symphony manager in 2008. Ms. Stemler graduated with a degree in piano performance from Humboldt State, where she studied under Deborah Clasquin. She was the recipient of many awards including the Van Duzer Performing Arts Scholarship, and performed as a concerto soloist with the Humboldt Symphony. This past summer she assisted and accompanied the Arcata High Madrigal Choir while performing in Verona, Italy. Ms. Stemler is also accompanist and Music Director at St. Bernard and St. Joseph Catholic Churches in Eureka, and performs frequently with the Eureka Symphony on keyboard.
As symphony manager, Ms. Stemler is librarian, organizer, detective, stage director, and manager of countless details. Preparation for each new season starts four months in advance, locating scores and music. From time to time, the Symphony plays music that is rarely performed or permanently out of print and difficult to find. Ms. Stemler is in contact with composers and their relatives, and with librarians of professional orchestras in pursuit of bringing a breadth of music to the north coast.

Ms Jacobson is past conductor of the HSU Orchestra, directed the Humboldt Music Academy for eight years, and performed in the Helmholtz Trio with Terrie Baune and the late Deborah Clasquin. She currently teaches studio cello at HSU and is principal cellist in the North State Symphony.
Ms. Jacobson is the recipient of a Wells Fargo Heritage Award for excellence in teaching. In 2009, she was honored as Northcoast Music Educator of the Year at the California Music Educators Association Gala Awards Event held in Ontario.
In 2009, Ms. Jacobson was honored by the League of Women Voters for civic contribution in establishing the Eureka Symphony as a major cultural influence in the region.
