How to Join the Eureka Symphony Orchestra
Auditions are required to join the Eureka Symphony Orchestra. Prospective members will be asked to play a solo piece of their choice demonstrating their technical
and musical abilities. They will also be asked to sight read a selected piece.
The audition committee will consist of the conductor, the orchestra manager and the appropriate section leaders whenever possible.
Rhythmic accuracy and intonation are the most important qualities we look for in the prepared material and solid sight reading skills are also expected.
Three outcomes are possible:
1. Accepted for orchestra membership; expected to make a commitment to the season.
2. Will be called as needed; may be asked to play at certain concerts as the needs of the orchestra require, especially as substitutes or as extra players in a section.
3. Not accepted; may choose to re-audition at a later date, preferable at least a year later.
Who Can Audition
Anyone who can meet the audition criteria is invited to audition. High school students must also be members in good standing in their school’s orchestra. In the event
that a community member and a high school or college student audition for a single chair opening, preference will be given to the community member if they are of at least
comparable ability.
Interested musicians must schedule an audition time by contacting the ES Orchestra manager. To contact the orchestra manager send an email to symphonymanager@gmail.com |
