Join Us!

We may be "one of the best kept musical secrets" in Humboldt County, but there are many ways you can become involved in the Symphony.

If you haven't heard us recently, the the first step is to join us at one of our concerts at the Arkley Center, for a magical evening of music. If you're as inspired as we think you will be, you can become a season subscriber, sponsor a concert or a section chair, donate, volunteer... or just help us get the word out by telling your friends!

If you're a musician, we invite you to check out information on auditioning for the orchestra in the sidebar below. Youth performers will also want to consider our annual Youth Concert competition. And if you have any great ideas on how to bring Symphonic music into your neighborhood or circle of friends, we would love to hear from you!

Making Contact

If you would like to be added to our postal or mailing list, just send us an email with your contact information. (And of course, we won't sell or otherwise share your personal info!)

If you're on Facebook, you can "like" us to receive concert reminders and musical tidbits.

Donations and Sponsorships

We are so grateful to the many donors and sponsors who make the Symphony possible! There are fun opportunities and useful partnerships available, from sponsoring a chair or a concert, to supporting youth activities such as the new School to Symphony Program, or advertising in our program.

All of our sponsors and donors are listed in the annual glossy program. We'd love for you to be one of those names! You can mail us a check or bring a donation to any concert. If you'd like to designate a particular project, simply note that in the memo field. As always, we'd love to talk with you if you have any questions or a special idea.

Volunteers... and Participants!

The most important part of the Symphony is you. The Eureka Symphony exists because of community members. There is nothing better than playing to a full house of people who are excited to hear what we've been working so hard to create.

If you'd like to become more involved, contact us! We couldn't make the music we do without a smart and enthusiastic group of folks whose energy keeps the Symphony alive.

Thanks for all that you do to support live and local symphonic music on the northcoast!

Auditioning for the Symphony Orchestra

Auditions are required to join the Eureka Symphony Orchestra. Prospective members will be asked to play a solo piece of their choice demonstrating their technical and musical abilities. They will also be asked to sight read a selected piece.

The audition committee will consist of the conductor, the orchestra manager, and the appropriate section leaders whenever possible.

Rhythmic accuracy and intonation are the most important qualities we look for in the prepared material and solid sight reading skills are also expected.

Three outcomes are possible:

  1. Accepted for orchestra membership; expected to make a commitment to the season.

  2. Will be called as needed; may be asked to play at certain concerts as the needs of the orchestra require, especially as substitutes or as extra players in a section.

  3. Not accepted; may choose to re-audition at a later date, preferable at least a year later.

Who Can Audition

Anyone who can meet the audition criteria is invited to audition. High school students must also be members in good standing in their school's orchestra. In the event that a community member and a high school or college student audition for a single chair opening, preference will be given to the community member if they are of at least comparable ability.

Interested musicians must schedule an audition time by contacting the ES Orchestra manager. To contact the orchestra manager send an email to our Symphony Manager.
